Redford’s Pound Rescue Fund
Redford today, after his long recovery, in his forever loving home! In October of 2005, a very special dog was brought into the King William Veterinary Clinic/Pound by animal control from King and Queen County. This dog had mange, heartworms, bullet fragments in his body, a chain embedded in his neck and an arrow through his abdomen. Shockingly, he was still alive. Besides the obvious problems this dog was going to face, there was no owner to pay his needed medical fees. Members of the Indian Rivers Humane Society Pound Rescue Team decided it was time to raise some funds. They sent out e-mails and made several phone calls. Not only did they get the money needed for all of his medical treatment, they received more donations than what they needed. Those extra funds became known as our "Pound Rescue Fund". With these funds in hand, any injured dog with no owner could get the medical treatment that it needed. After this dog received his medical treatments at the King William Veterinary Clinic, he was sent to a foster home to recuperate. Due to the lack of appropriate fosters for a dog in this condition, this dog was transferred to a rescue group called Aarf in Henrico County. His foster Mom, Cindy, decided to name him "Redford". Redford has now healed from his physical injuries and has found his forever home. If not for the generous donations to Redford’s Pound Rescue Fund, he would have never made it through his first night. Thanks to the start of the Pound Rescue fund, dogs brought into the King William/King and Queen County pound can afford the treatments they may require. Several dogs that have been hit by cars, abused, neglected or sick have received the expensive treatments that they have despartely needed. Broken bones have been mended, embedded collars have been removed, parvo and distemper have been treated, and open cuts have been sewn. It takes donations and fundraising efforts to keep this program running.
